Muraca Design and Studio Brocante

Retail, SpaceAndrea Hubbell

I first met Sandy years ago when C-Ville Weekly hired me to take a portrait of her in her favorite space. When she got back in touch, wanting portfolio images for her website and product vignettes for her online store, I was thrilled. Who wouldn't want to spend hours with a talented designer, surrounded by French antiques, chatting about food, travel, and family?  We hit it off immediately and had a lovely couple of days building her image library.

Check out Sandy's shop, Studio Brocante, filled with pieces she has personally chosen while traveling in France. I'd like one of everything, please.

Market Street Market - Styled Table

Food, Retailandrea

I love working on styled shoots.  The meticulous detail and care that went into creating this image with Matt Thomas of Convoy speaks to the architect in me.  Convoy created a brochure for Main Street Market featuring all of the businesses enveloped within its walls.  I love how it turned out.

Scout is Out! Charlottesville Vol. 5

Food, Published, Restaurant, Retail, Spaceandrea

A good part of my winter was spent working with Heather Halsey, editor of The Scout Guide - Charlottesville, to create the fifth volume in the beautiful Charlottesville series. What a pleasure!!! Each photo shoot was so different, with a wonderful variety of people, spaces, and products to capture. Below are a few of my favorite spreads.

Be sure to pick up the new book, available in shops and restaurants all over Charlottesville! You're sure to find inspiration cover-to-cover.

Thank you, Heather, Susie and Christy for folding me into your awesome team!  xoxo.

Our team: Heather Halsey + Andrea Hubbell.  Many thanks to Cramer Photo for capturing my portrait. :)

Have you seen the new Scarpa website? Designed by Brian, built by our friend Brendan, staff portraits by Sarah, and store/detail images by me. What a fun collaboration! Thanks for bringing us all together, Amy!

SCARPA | spring!

Retail, Spaceandrea

It is no secret that I adore SCARPA. For the last few months I've been documenting Spring in the shop with the help of the talented Kai'li, SCARPA blogger, social media extrordinaire, and stylist. It has been such a pleasure to spend a couple of hours in the shop each week with her, soaking in the beauty of the space and their merchandise.

fosteria design and woodworks | lifestyle imagery

Retail, Spaceandrea

When Tina and Mark, owners of Fosteria Design and Woodworks, contacted me about styling and photographing their designs they asked if I had any thoughts about where we might set up our shoot. I came up with some ideas and met them at their home to see the pieces in person...and completely fell in love with their beautiful, historic farmhouse. Tina has done a wonderful job with the interior, using soft neutrals and natural materials throughout each room. It was the perfect setting to photograph their lovely designs, which are all made with reclaimed wood and found objects.

Tina and Mark are a talented duo, designing and crafting clocks, coat racks, furniture (check out Mark's desk!) and even delicate candlesticks. Rather than photograph their pieces in a generic setting without context, I wanted to capture them in a lived-in space that would add to the personality of their brand. Tina and I worked to style each vignette while Mark moved and hung clocks and coat racks where we asked. It was a great day, and I am so pleased with the images captured!

studio ten15 | custom letterpress studio in charlottesville

Retailandrea

Meet Debbie, my talented friend behind Studio Ten15 in Charlottesville. We met in architecture school at UVA, where we collaborated for a semester on ecoMOD and Debbie met her husband, Tom. It was while designing and creating their wedding invitations that Debbie fell in love with the art of letterpress and decided to start her own company, named for their wedding date. I love her sweet + clever designs, especially those featuring sketches from her travels while in school. She is working on several wedding invitation suites at the moment and I can't wait to see the final designs.

We spent an afternoon together while Debbie pressed custom notecards for AHPhoto, featuring my new logo designed by Rock Paper Scissors. I am completely in love with the cards, and am going to have a hard time parting with them! It's a good thing that Studio Ten15 is right around the corner...

Thank you, Debbie, for sharing your art with me and letting me press a few of my own cards. I am so excited to watch you grow!

looking back on 2011

Food, Life, Retail, Spaceandrea

The last was my first full year devoting 100% of my working time to Andrea Hubbell Photography. Looking back on the last 12 months I can't help but feel proud, humbled, and most of all, so very appreciative. For having the opportunity to chase this big, BIG dream. For all of the people who have made this my reality. For all of you..the family, friends, clients, and colleagues who have put your trust in me. And for Brian, without whom none of this would be possible.

2010 was for making changes and a big, big leap. 2011 for chasing dreams and surviving. 2012 will be for seizing the reins, being proactive, taking chances...challenging myself to be and do better, every single day.

I wish you all a happy, healthy, inspiring 2012!

[here are some of my favorites from 2011...thank you, each one of you, for an amazing year!]

CARLO!

Retailandrea

It is no secret that I am a big fan of Amy Gardner and her shop, SCARPA. Amy's latest adventure involves an Airstream called CARLO (The first name of the Italian architect that SCARPA is named after, which also happens to be the Italian translation of 'shoe'. So clever, that Amy.). CARLO was fabulously refurbished as a SCARPA on wheels and was parked in the Barracks Road North parking lot for a couple of days last week. Featured inside were pieces by local Charlottesville artists, including one of my other favorite people, jewelry designer Linda van der Linde.

Keep up with CARLO's adventures and scheduled appearances on the SCARPA blog!

roxie daisy

Retail, Spaceandrea

Have you been to Roxie Daisy in downtown Charlottesville yet? Such a fabulous shop! I am so excited to have a new option for home decor and styling here locally. Karen has fabulous taste...I have a very long wishlist of items she's hand selected for her store that I need in my home. The space and merchandise are beautifully styled by Wendy Umanoff, who worked with us for this day-long shoot. These images are to be used for the new Roxie Daisy website, which is in design and development by Adam of Land of Yogg.  This was such a fun team to work with...I am really proud of the final images and can't wait to see them on the new site!

fall at scarpa

Retail, Spaceandrea

Autumn has arrived. She is evident in the gray skies, fallen leaves, and within the walls of SCARPA. I am loving the vivid pops of sapphire, magenta, and coral mixed with the season's best neutrals. Warning, the images below could result in the lightening of your wallet...

[by the way...the SCARPA website was designed and built by my oh-so-talented husband!]

whitley designs | charlottesville commercial photography

Retailandrea

I have an ongoing relationship with Whitley Designs, so you're likely to see their lovely pieces pop up on this space of mine every now and then. Whitney and Hayley sent a few new pieces all the way from California for me to photograph a few weeks ago. I have such fun styling for these two ladies, who give me quite a bit of reign with creativity. The only rule we've set together is the neutral color palette, which keeps their website and marketing materials cohesive despite the variation in subject and props. These images are from sessions spanning the last 8 months, but they all still complement each other beautifully. You can see more Whitley Designs in my commercial portfolio.

You can purchase Whitley Designs from Sustain, Inc. in Charlottesville, at the Mistletoe Market on November 14th, or directly from their website.

entertain with caspari | charlottesville commercial photography

Retailandrea

Caspari is a respected publisher of beautifully designed and printed paper goods. Their products are inspired by and often actual reproductions of works from established artists and museum collections. While paper has been the primary concentration of the company since 1945, they've expanded their offerings to include 30 different product categories, all meant to create elegant home settings for living and entertaining. Caspari moved to Charlottesville from New York City in 2005, and has a second location in Paris.

I worked with the designers and stylists at Caspari to capture images that inspire the use of a variety of textures and materials on the table.  Thank you to Hobby, Patrice, and Lucia for creating such lovely vignettes!

scarpa | feeling like fall

Retail, Spaceandrea

Scarpa, a lovely Charlottesville boutique, is about to launch an online store!  My friend Amy asked me to capture some images that embodied the look and feel of the shop - in her words, "yummy" photographs that would draw people in and make Scarpa stand out on the web.  Sarah, Scarpa manager with a background in fashion design, has a wonderful eye for style and was such fun to work with.  This was her modeling debut!  I can't wait to get her outside for a Fall fashion lifestyle shoot.

What do you think...are you ready to shop?

book binding @ rock paper scissors

Retailandrea

Rock Paper Scissors, a Charlottesville staple, changed hands in March.  The new owners, Dani Antol and Heather McNulty, have poured heart and soul into the shop, creating a lovely space on The Downtown Mall that can occupy hours of your time on any given afternoon.  This weekend the ladies hosted a Rockin' Re-Opening to mark their 6-month-iversary with cupcakes and spontaneous rock paper scissors tournaments, store-wide discounts and free book binding workshops. With irresistible papers and wax-coated linen thread, local artist Lindsey Mears guided patrons through the process of creating a journal using the pamphlet stitch.

Thank you, Dani and Heather, for including me in your celebration. Congratulations on the success of your fabulous shop!
